Course Information

The classic when it comes to Half Marathons, the Huntly Half Marathon is NZ’s longest running standalone Half Marathon event having started in 1981.

This course is one that is fast. It features a virtually flat single out and back route that follows the mighty Waikato River completely on sealed and closed roads. This course will only be used for the Half Marathon participants and no other event distances.

The event returns to its original time of year in May and is perfectly positioned a few weeks after the Rotorua Marathon allowing for that goal of running a fast time on this fast course.

The event involves the traditional Half Marathon distance of 21.1km, along with a 10km, 5km and Kids 2km for Under 16 year olds. All events have the option of either a Run or Walk.

Half Marathon

This new course is fast. It features a virtually flat single out and back route that follows the mighty Waikato River completely on sealed roads. The course starts at Huntly Rugby Club, exits left into Alexandra Street, then right onto Riverview Road, which then becomes Hakarimata Road to a turnaround a few hundred meters after Morpork Lane.

The Half Marathon also offers prize money for the first 3 paces and a time bonus prize if winner beats the clock

  • 1st Place ‘male and female’ $400
  • 2nd Place ‘male and female’ – $200
  • 3rd Place ‘male and female’ – $100
  • 1st Place male under 65 minutes $200
  • 1st Place female under 75 minutes $200

10km

The Huntly Half Marathon 10km Course is one that covers a bit of everything. Starting at Huntly Rugby Club, exit left into Alexandra Street then right onto Riverview Road, turn right at Porritt Avenue, heading to the top of Porritt Avenue and crossing straight over the road, then turning right onto the awesome gravel trails around Lake Puketirini which offers a bit of variety with a few undulations and a long downhill.

Once you have completed the circuit around Lake Puketirini, you return back down Porritt Avenue, turn left into Riverview Road, left into Alexandra Street then back into the Huntly Rugby Club to the finish.

5km

The Huntly Half Marathon 5km Course is also one that covers a bit of everything. Starting at Huntly Rugby Club, exit left into Alexandra Street then right onto Riverview Road, turn right at Porritt Avenue, heading to the top of Porritt avenue and crossing straight over the road, then turning right onto the awesome gravel trails around Lake Puketirini which offers a bit of variety with a few undulations and an uphill climb.

Once you have completed the circuit along the foreshore of Lake Puketirini and back up the hill, you return back down Porritt Avenue turn left into Riverview Road, left into Alexandra Street then back into the Huntly Rugby Club to the finish.
